Om my word - i've been a wharf rat for 24 years and i got a secondary coke buzz just listening to the opening. Ya think anything kicked in about the time of the uptempo Frankiln's

I feel very lucky to have been at many many shows yet there are a few that have always stood out . this is one of those nights. Was lucky to be at. I put it up with the boise 83 show along with lake placid 83. The sound on this show is oustanding. i give it 5 starts due to everything that came into play this night. Nice summer night in my ealry years of life great place to see the boys and the sunset was AMAzing... All that said i love the entire show one rockin night on tour

Great show all the way around. Fantastic early 80's setlist with a nice Half-Step>Frankins as the opening 1-2 punch. Second set soars with exceptional versions of Shakedown, Let it Grow and He's Gone (note the unusual placements of the latter two). There are worse encores than Casey Jones (I'm talking to you Day Job).
Excellent tune selection and tight performance at a great venue. What's not to like??

Here on this great and wondrous Archive is a sweet matrix of this show but i am playing THIS show right now and a hint of a tear is there as Stella Blue is on, so beautiful. Jerry sounds great, his playing is inspired and the rest of the band meshes like the fingers of a hand. Wish Phil was higher in the mix.:) But again get this and you will love it and your soul will be blessed

This is a rip-snortin' show with a dreamy setlist captured by a clear-as-a-bell, light-on-the-Phil AUD recording. With a little help from his friends, Garcia makes it sound easy. It's one of those nights where there's nothing keeping him from following every creative impulse and expressing any possible musical idea. Here lies an exceptional portrait of the artist as a grown man. The listener is rewarded.
Inspiration.

I recently heard 8/4 the following night which is shockingly hot and along with 4/16 Greek are the best shows the year hands down 7/28 Red Rocks and Manor Downs are really good as well.
In brief for some reason never played a bad show I aware of in Kansas and Wichita 11/72 is a favorite of that year and Starlight '85 is ripping. The open with a bonecrunching Half Step>Franklins and Minglewood is prob one of the best of the 80's along with Binghampton '83. Listen to the audience rather than the board on this get a feel for the crowd who are totally into this+ Cassidy strong, Big RR+ All of these are songs Jer played when he was 'on'. Shakedown too..This one is just OK. Sampson and the rest of the show solid.
Couple of milestones: Last 2nd set To Lay me Down and Let it Grow I think, and definately He's Gone 18 mins *** post drums which is an awesome place for it and something done more commondly in '78- It's wierd this show is a cross between '78 and '85. Last Casey Jones for a while too. Other one is short but hot.

IMHO this is the DL of this great night. I hitched here after the abysmal showing on Jer's birthday in Oklahoma City. Man that was a weird night. Bad JuJu. This evening kinda set things straight. The Midwest leg of this tour ending in Iowa is a screaming run of great Dead that is largely over looked. Im not saying its May of 77 but its damn good.

This is an exquisite show and not half bad AUD recording from a little-revered era of the Dead. Amazing versions of Franklin's, Peggy-O, Cumberland, Women Are Smarter (yes, Jerry's chord rips are ill!!) and Mighty Swell in the first set. A tempered but very strong Shakedown>Samson kicks off set 2, but then they play perhaps the most gorgeous version of To Lay Me Down ever!! Wow! So quiet and lilting. Let it Grow is predictably smokin even though the second jam sort of peters out at the end. Jerry makes up for this by doing He's Gone after drums...! And of course, it's totally great. The Other One is good, but no bombs and it's kind of mellow. It sets the stage for an highly emotional Stella Blue with cascading raindrops of notes at the end. Nice hot Mag action, and of course any show that had a Casey Jones encore in the 80s (2 in 1982) has gotta be good - Jerry's voice is going out while drivin that train.... all in all a great show from this year with an AUD recording that is a little in your face during the loud moments - there's not a lot of bass either. At least give the stream a shot.

Ive had this tape for over ten years now from this same source but only the 2nd set and with a horrible cut during a sweet sweet stella blue. I always wondered why this show wasnt more circulated as its always been a personal fav of mine. Its great to find this gem complete and uncut here. This is a great recording and an excellent show. Do yourself a favor and give this show a chance, there's some great music to be found here.
